Donald Trump has imposed a 25% tariff plan on steel and aluminium imports, designed to protect US manufacturing and boost jobs by making foreign-made products less attractive.
Sky’s Mark Stone visits a manufacturing plant in West Virginia, where the chief executive says these tariffs are “blunt” but necessary to combat cheap Chinese aluminium.
But for a brewery in Washington DC, which imports cans from Canada, the owner is worried about the cost of tariffs on their operating costs, saying they “don’t have the luxury” of raising their price as they are in a “competitive landscape”.

Yeah but it's basically trumps mates who are going to benefit if it even works rich get richer and everyone else suffers
I'm collecting scrap aluminum! And saving it!
The US doesn't have the bauxite ore to make aluminum. An aluminum smelter uses as much electricity as an entire city, that's why it is cheaply produced in Canada. Look up the James bay power project in Canada. Even the US companies are there for the huge amount of electricity it produces. The US actually imports more aluminum from Canada than it does from China or any other country.
Aha, so now taxes are bad but only when they are about taxing foreign sellers and not your own people . Most EU countries charge a 39% tax on USA imports, while USA currently charged 20% . So why are these European countries taxing so much ? Their people will have to pay more and it also affect USA workers who need to produce more in order to cover for it . https://youtu.be/6NjZMlUDgro?si=5NJHIyw1tToyDUKq.
Educating Americans about aluminum is like asking him to point the continents never mind the countries. They don’t understand the Apple business model, they don’t know where the resources come from, and, as their eloquent leader summed it up, we don’t need anything from the rest of the world. If there’s one thing America needs to do is educate itself about. The world as a whole
As long as the investment bros are happy who cares about middle America and the middle class
Theres a reason aluminum and steel is produced in Canada….
To believe its just going to pack up and move to USA is NOT going to happen. China is the enemy, not Canada.
no more topooh quality.
This is blowing my mind!
Self depression
don't buy cars for the next 4 years
FAFO
Just another fleesing of the consumer and making more monopolies possible
All smoke n mirrors.
This video is a logical falacy. Putting finger on china, while tariff imposed also to canada, mexico, and literally the whole world. lmao
Potatoes
its Americans tarrifs and Americas plan. Its what we want.
Member when those past prime ministers recommended we make more trade relations in Asia, but we were like nah USA will always look out for us… Well well well GFC round 2.
It feels good to know that whatever happens, the billionaires will get richer.
The only consolation of my fellow Americans electing Trump again is that they're gonna feel this pain as well.
NO ARGUMENT = lies and cheating = grown in the USA = must be cheaper fresher and better than overseas – wheat barley – and other shipping cost = no way it can be cheaper = GROWN AND MADE IN AMERICA ! = stop international ROT and make home grown well known !
These woman have zero clue how a tariff works
surprising that sky news would say andything disagreeing with Trump lol
What i do not understand about Trump in this situation is that he wants aluminium production in the US for national security. The US however would have to import bauxite anyway. How does that address national security?
Small businesses will fail first of course. Large monopolies will survive, and they are the ones who caused this trade imbalance. No I phone was ever made here. Trump says that will chance, but Apple will just end up like the Foxconn promise in term 1.
Let us pray B&S for Angel of peace to protect us all Americans.
This report is missing the big point. Canada produces 53% of America Aluminum. We have the abundance of the minerals and hydro to produce it. There is no way on earth America can mine and build refining facilities to complete with Canada. The tariffs of 25% isn’t enough to over come the problem. And no Canada will not send the raw materials to be refined.
Just to remind sky news and everyone watching that Trump has only been in office for 9 weeks.
So we export malt to the USA. Thats a positive thing sky maybe spin it positively?
Any chance of not spinning anti Trump propaganda for at least 24 hours?
Uk news media only covers Trumps tariffs but no other tariffs in the western world 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny how he calls subsides "illegal"… Americans love to subsidize everything from production to farming the US government loves to throw cash at it and then complain other companies are being unfair using cheaper power and more.
Makes sense to not be reliant on other countries for metals, fuel, rare minerals, technology etc….
Just ask Germany that were 70-80 % beholdant to Russia for fuel supplies…They couldn't help Ukraine at the start of the invasion in case the taps were turned off.
Typical biased Sly news propaganda.
Sad. Those tariffs are just going to be an indirect tax source for the US government, as to many products, there is no viable US alternative (and there probably won't be one in the future). The sad news is that it hits hardest people like the ones from West Virginis, shown at the end of the clip.
Britain charges a 20 % tarriff too. Its called VAT. what now?
MAGA wrong again. Tariffs are not paid by other countries. Tariffs are paid by American companies, that bring in products from other countries. Right Proper brewing will pay the government when it brings in grain from Canada, hops from Germany, etc.
