Homeowners and businesses that have installed rooftop solar systems should register with ESKOM or face penalties. The power utility says the registration process ensures that the solar systems do not compromise the safety and reliability of the national grid. Energy expert Matthew Cruise has more.

Eskom is in shambles with more than one group in Eskom pretending to be the hub within Eskom. The law requires registration via Nersa. Eskom was told to do it.
Anti-islanding is not an issue. There are NO inverters in the world without anti islanding. Relax.
In developed countries the utility will subsidise private power generation if they are unable to provide electricity. A lodge in Spain, for instance, is too far from the grid and had to install their own generator and solar setup. Their equivalent of ESKOM subsidised the installation to 75% and the power costs to 60%. Now that is service to the citizens.

Eskom is just a company like Cokacola and Nestle, not government. People should install the panels because no one is suing Eskom for the hours they turn of electricity.
